I have a Dell Dimension XPS GEN 5, Pentium D CPU 3.20 GHz, 2 GB RAM, RADEON X850 XT Platinum Edition graphics card. My computer used to be able to play Battlefield 2, but now it crashes when I run a Genesis emulator (the only thing that won't crash the computer is Snes9X, a SNES emulator). I thought the cause might be: 1) I recently got a new, higher res monitor and am now running a dual monitor setup, which maybe the gfx card can't handle; 2) maybe my cooling fan is giving out (but it sounds fine); 3) maybe I need more RAM; or 4) maybe something is just broken and needs replacement/updating. Any help would be much appreciated; I'd like to be able to play games, since that's half the reason I got this computer (and I know it's kinda dated now). Thanks! Also, the non-gaming applications clearly work fine, including the internet and including playing videos, music, etc. moreOpen Question: Can you set a separate wallpaper for an external monitor?
I'm going to be getting a laptop soon, and have an external CRT monitor I wish to use with it. I don't want to use them as a dual setup or anything. I just want to switch back and forth between them at will. As the two screens have different max resolutions, sharing the same wallpaper will look bad. Will it be possible to automatically switch between two wallpapers depending on which monitor is active? OS is Windows Vista 64-bit GPU is GeForce GTX 280M Thanks! I don't really think it's relevant to the question, but my reason for using an external CRT is that older low res games looks terrible on an LCD. moreOpen Question: I need help with dual monintor displays.?

I need a AGP video card with dual monitor capabilities. There are so many choices and rules...my main goal for my video card is to play new games (currently my card is so old that it won't play anything new.). Games such as Spore, The Movies, Black & White. I need dual monitors for film editing and photo editing. Next, I need memory. How do I find out what kind to get? My computer is approximately 4 yrs old. Finally, I got a SATA internal hard drive from someone. It is 500 GB. I want to use it, but my computer is IDE. I know I can get convertors for the motherboard, but I think i want it as an external HD. I guess I would just like some suggestions. My main reason for wanting it to be external is because I have a lot of videos, music and photos that I do not regularly need but are very important (I make films). They take up approximately 150GB of my current internal HD. So what do you think I should do with this new 500GB hd? Thanks! moreOpen Question: Would a desktop and laptop combination work nicely?
I have a question for all of you out there: the question is stated above, lol. So here's my problem. I need a newer, faster computer. Right now I have a laptop with a dual monitor display, I have one monitor connected via VGA to my laptop. The dual screen is very nice. Here are my current laptop specs: HP dv6000 series, AMD Turion Dual Core 2.0 Ghz, 3 Gb DDR2 RAM, Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, Nvidia Geforce 7150m IGP, 140GB hard drive. As you can see, its not that well equipped for gaming. And I am looking for a new computer that can handle a bit newer games. I configured a pretty nice HP laptop for $769, it has a 17 inch and ATI graphics, with an Intel 2.0Ghz processor. The specs are pretty good. However, the specs on the laptop are nothing near the specs on a desktop. I configured one from HP (I really like HP) and the specs are amazing. Intel core 2 quad 2.33GHz, 6GB DDR3 RAM, 640GB hard drive, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1Gb dedicated video memory. All for $714. Here's the problem though. I really want the specs on the desktop, but I need to replace my laptop. I would really like to have good specs on the go and not keep my current laptop and get a desktop for home use. I can only get one. Also, if I got the desktop, that would take away my dual monitorness. I would have my laptop screen, and my HP monitor would connect to my desktop, so they wouldn't be able to work together. I don't know which I would rather have, better specs on a desktop but no portability and no laptop upgrade. Or, laptop upgrade, but not as good specs. Can someone help me out here? What should I do? moreResolved Question: Why has my computer been crashing?
I have an AMD Athlon 64 dual-core processor 2.21ghz, a nvidia 9800GT with 1GB ddr3, 1.5gbs of ram, and a reliable asus motherboard. I don't have anything overclocked right now. My computer has crashed 5 times in the last week, and each time resulted from full-screening an in-browser streaming video via Firefox. The video runs for about 1-10 seconds and then bam, everything is frozen including the mouse cursor. It's not the video card or monitor as I've used Alt+F4 repeatedly and played around with the keyboard and didn't get any response from my computer. (It's a loud machine and any process/program creates sound). On a similar and related note: I've decided to install the Windows 7 Beta on an extra hard-drive I just set up, and during the install my computer freezes in the same way at various random points. I can do anything else on my computer without it freezing: install anything/everything else, play Prototype on nearly max settings for 5 hours, etc. I think it might be a hardware problem, but I've done everything including cleaning out my motherboard/hardware with keyboard cleaner - it's completely dust-free now. And my cooling fans seem to be working alright. I don't know how to approach this problem. Any input would be appreciated, thanks. Also running Windows XP. moreOpen Question: Should I get this computer?

According Wikipedia: The United States supported Iraq during the Iran–Iraq War as a counterbalance to post-revolutionary Iran. This support included several billion dollars worth of economic aid, the sale of dual-use technology, non-U.S. origin weaponry, military intelligence, Special Operations training, and direct involvement in warfare against Iran as well. Support from the U.S. for Iraq was not a secret and was frequently discussed in open session of the Senate and House of Representatives, although the public and news media paid little attention. On June 9, 1992, Ted Koppel reported on ABC's Nightline, "It is becoming increasingly clear that George Bush, operating largely behind the scenes throughout the 1980s, initiated and supported much of the financing, intelligence, and military help that built Saddam's Iraq into" the power it became,[and "Reagan/Bush administrations permitted – and frequently encouraged – the flow of money, agricultural credits, dual-use technology, chemicals, and weapons to Iraq. Starting in 1982 with Iranian success on the battlefield, the United States made its backing of Iraq more pronounced, normalizing relations with the government, supplying it with economic aid, counter-insurgency training, operational intelligence on the battlefield, and weapons. President Ronald Reagan initiated a strategic opening to Iraq, signing National Security Decision Directive 4-82 and selecting Donald Rumsfeld as his emissary to Hussein, whom he visited in December 1983 and March 1984. According to U.S. ambassador Peter W. Galbraith, far from winning the conflict, "the Reagan administration was afraid Iraq might actually lose." T]he United States actively supported the Iraqi war effort by supplying the Iraqis with billions of dollars of credits, by providing U.S. military intelligence and advice to the Iraqis, and by closely monitoring third country arms sales to Iraq to make sure that Iraq had the military weaponry required. The United States also provided strategic operational advice to the Iraqis to better use their assets in combat. moreOpen Question: control which screen to open program?

I am setting up a sever for a client that has a small business of 15-20 people. I was wondering whether to go with Apple or Windows based server. Yes I know I went to college for this but I want some feed-back on this because this is one of my first IT jobs were i have a nearly unlimited budget. I was planning to go with Apple. Here is what I came up with: Mac Pro- Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 16GB memory 4TB hard drive Dual-channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express card Mac OS X Server Xsan 2 Price Quote: $7,547.00 At each desk there would be a 24" Apple LED Cinema Display and wired full Apple Keyboard and Wired Mouse. Price Quote: Around $15,000 Overall the cost would be around $25,00 to $27,000 with all the maintenance and extra software. The small business is a creative designer based company so Apple would easily be the best choice for the business. And with the Apple Cinema display it would be easy for the colleagues to connect their Apple Macbooks directly to the monitor and then also share data between the Airport Extreme and Time Machines with files from their own laptops. So I believe going with an Apple configuration would be best. Is there anything better out there to support a small business of designers? I NEED a data transfer setup that Xsan 2 gives me. I am looking for a good computer desk but can't seem to find one. This desk needs to be able to hold a 24" iMac, a custom built PC (full ATX tower) with dual 22" monitors in SLI, and at least one of my laptops. I would also need a hutch area behind it to hold my wireless router, alarm clock and other accessories related to my computer. Does anyone know any way I can set one of the reprogramable buttons to switch from inputing to one monitor and the other?
