Voting Question: what is the meaning of the word "clod" in the following quotation.does it mean "a lump" or " a stupid person"?

"This is the true joy in life -- the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy." ~ George Bernard Shaw if it means a "lump" as someone said in his/her answer, then the question is that how can a lump be a selfish one?  more

Voting Question: What is the meaning of Christ’s statement to “the thief on the cross”?

Some cite this account, found in Luke 23:39-43, as validation for the doctrines of “deathbed repentance” and “the saved go to heaven.” But does it really prove that? The answer is NO. The verse that is so commonly used to support these doctrines is verse 43, which states, “And Jesus said to him, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” Christ could not have literally meant “today,” because He Himself would not be resurrected until three days and three nights after burial (Matt. 12:40). Obviously, He had not, at that point, even died. Since Christ and God the Father are of the same mind (John 10:30), and God “cannot lie” (Titus 1:2), Christ was not telling the thief that he would be with Him “in heaven” that day. He did not even mean it in the general sense of “here and now” (i.e., in today’s world). He had stated, in John 3:13, “No one has ascended to heaven…” Consider the following: King David was “a man after God’s own heart” (I Sam. 13:14; Acts 13:22). Abraham was God’s friend (II Chron. 20:7) and “father of the faithful” (Gal. 3:7-9). Moses was the meekest man who had ever lived (Num. 12:3) and spoke with God personally (Ex. 33:11). If none of these great servants of God had ascended to heaven, then how is it possible that a thief, although repentant at the end of his life, could have a guaranteed reward in heaven? The meaning of the Luke 23 account is distorted because of a simple error in translation. The comma following Christ’s lead-in statement, “Assuredly, I say to you…” was misplaced, thereby changing the entire meaning of His words. The original Greek, in which the New Testament was written, did not utilize certain punctuation, such as commas and quotation marks. These were later added by translators, according to their own discretion. The correct rendering is “Assuredly, I say to you today [in other words, “I tell you right now”], you will be with Me in Paradise.” Another scripture commonly used to promote the doctrine of “deathbed repentance” is “The Parable of the Laborers” (Matt. 20:1-16). Does this scripture prove that doctrine’s validity? No. Here is why. Although the men who came in at “the eleventh hour” had only worked for an hour, compared to the others, who had “borne the burden and the heat of the day” (vs. 12), they had still worked. The owner of the vineyard did not pay them for simply “standing around and doing nothing.” Likewise, God is not going to grant salvation to someone who—lying on his “deathbed” at the end of a sin-filled life in which was displayed a total disregard for God’s laws—simply declares some form of repentance for which no “fruits” can possibly be seen (Matt. 7:20; Matt. 3:8). Scripture does not directly state which of the three resurrections the thief will be a part of. Since he obviously had not been baptized and given God’s Holy Spirit, we can conclude that he will not be among those raised in the First Resurrection, to take place at Christ’s Return (I Thes. 4:16). And, since Christ did not condemn him, we know that he will not be raised in the Third Resurrection, which will be for those who will not repent. They will be destroyed (Rev. 20:6, 14-15). The thief will receive his first opportunity for salvation in the Second Resurrection, to take place after the millennium (Rev. 20:5). At that time, the world will truly be “paradise,” since Satan will have been bound and cast away, never to be able to again deceive mankind (Rev. 20:1-3).  more

Resolved Question: If a confirmed atheist commits their life to helping the sick, the poor...?

...and the helpless - can they get into Heaven? And how would their chances compare with, say... A Christian who spends hours fighting - and judging - people they've never met on R & S? (Quotations welcome) Yes... "confirmed". Ho ho ho. Nevermind the forest, when you can focus on a tree. Well done. It's strange that two such diametrically opposing views should come from the same source. It also changes the nature of God according to the view. In one, he's benevolent; in the other - dominating. If it should be on faith alone, then I imagine location would be a very important factor. I feel for the Nepalese, I really do. Voraciousreader - I was actually thinking of C.S.Lewis when I wrote the question. The Last Battle... good deeds done in the name of Tash rewarded by Aslan and vice versa. Resolved Question: Do you think public address announcements are like "psychological warfare on the customers"?

Do you think these little philosophies will improve day-to-day interactions and rely less on automated announcements or will they prove to be added irritations? London, June 25 (DPA) Travellers on London's Underground network are finding their anger about delays and overcrowding relieved by philosophical bon mots from great thinkers like Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein and Jean-Paul Sartre. From Thursday, drivers on Piccadilly Line trains will be asked to embellish routine service updates with quotes such as Gandhi's 'There is more to life than increasing its speed.'Paul Cezanne's 'We live in a rainbow of chaos' and Jean-Paul Sartre's 'Hell is other people' will also be recited by Tube drivers. While some travellers might find their journeys more thought-provoking, others are bound to frown at the innovation for disrupting their reading habits or music entertainment. Transport for London has commissioned Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller to compile a list of quotations to be used by Tube drivers. The artist said the idea was born out of his intense dislike of regular public address announcement. 'It does my head in. It's like some psychological warfare on the customer,' he said. Sally Shaw, who is running the pilot scheme for Transport for London, said it is part of a wider attempt to improve day-to-day interactions and rely less on automated announcements. 'I think everyone has their own little philosophies on their journeys and if we can get more of that out in the air, that would be great,' she said. Train driver Susy Wells said: 'I like to make my own announcements and it's nice to get the passengers thinking as well.'  more

Resolved Question: i need help with these quotations plzzz !!?

I'd like u to help me understand some quotations that i found really really hard and ambiguous. I've tried to sort them out but no chance! maybe u could help me out. i hope so anyway :). here they are: "literature is not chaste; if it is, it is not literature. " " Character is arguably the most important single component of the novel....Yet character Is probably the most difficult aspect of the art of fiction to discuss ln technical terms." ( i didn't really get what does technical terms refer to ??????) "Through time-shift, narrative avoids presenting life as just one thing after another, and allows us to make connections of causality and irony between widely separated events" i tried to explain them on my own but still i found them annoyingly impossible to discern. could u give me examples that coincide with these quotations.I'd much appreciate any help u give me. :). thanks a lot !!  more

Resolved Question: Why is there crime, racism, and hate?

I still don't understand how race plays an important part on people's lives. Race is just something made up by the belligerent human race so that they can feel good about themselves. When read about stuff like the little rock nine it just disgusts me that that actually happened. And to think that if i actually grew about around that time period, i too might have treating black people like that (since i am "white"). The color of your skin doesn't determine if you are better than any other person, it just reminds us all how we all need a change. I can't stand it when i see websites like "Stormfront" ( a white nationalist community) are still up and running. To all those racists: speak for yourselves. I am "white" (note the quotations) and I in no way agree with what you feel is right. Judging by your ways of thinking, i can tell that you guys are know nothing of ethics, and how your hate speech effects our society. I think that white supremacy is just so stupid. The human race has come so far, and we need all the help we can get. If we could all just get along, and work together as a whole, the world would be such a better place. WHy do we need crime? Don't you guys want to be free of all this anger? I cant even leave my front door open without worrying that im going to get robbed. If we all just realized that we are the ones that cause all this crime, and that we have the power to stop it, we could just live life peacefully, not having to worry about our children being kidnapped and killed, and everything that we've worked come crashing down. Why is crime such a nescessity? Why can't we all just understand that we can stop this? We are all so stupid in the fact that we all complain about all this crime and racism. All we need to do is join together, put aside our differences, and help each other not hurt eachother? I know it is not as easy as i think it is, but still it IS possible. Why are we all so stupid? This question has haunted me for a while now, and i just don't understand how "almighty" human race has come down to this... We NEED a change.  more

Voting Question: Essay help please nit pick!?

I'm writing an essay on why animalism failed in animal farm Old Major, a pig reaching the end of his life raises the idea of a revolution and just days after his death, the animal’s revolt. Following a successful rebellion, the animals agree to seven commandments entitled Animalism. In the fable Animal Farm by George Orwell, the philosophy of Animalism fails for numerous reasons. A struggle for power amongst the pigs corrupts Old Major’s dream for the farm as the pigs exploit the less intelligent animal’s naivety through propaganda. Old Major’s speech inspires the animal’s view by saying, “All men are enemies. All animals are comrades” (p.7). This quotation is the original idea for animalism, and is not followed throughout the novel. This is one of many visions such as “four legs good two legs bad” (p24), which went astray throughout this allegory. Power struggle was the beginning of the many problems that face Animal Farm and the original ideas of Animalism. The leader Napoleon was mainly responsible for these troubles that threatened the integrity of the animal’s original way of life. Running out intelligent leader Snowball was solely for Napoleons selfish gain. Animal Farm’s best interest was not in the mind of leader Napoleon and his understudy Squealer. Animals ultimately escape from the origin of “All animals are equal” (p.18). Rather they become what they aspire not to be, “all animals are equal but some are more equal the others” (p.92). Desire for power damages the honor of Animalism, and causes large ramifications for the delusional animals of Animal Farm. A longing for control was the cause of fighting within. Power was the motive behind the killings of many animals, whether it is in battle or slaughtering in the grounds. Manipulating the other animals plays a large part of Napoleons craving for power. The windmill exemplifies the pig’s manipulation of the other animals for their own gain. The pigs' explanation that Snowball is responsible for the windmill's first destruction represents exploitation. As it prevents the animals from becoming suspicious, the supposed enemy brings them together. In spite of the animals yearning for warmth and food, the pigs exploit common animals, such as Boxer, to earn more money and gain power. Exploitation of the naïve animals within the farm plays a large part in the fall of the philosophy of Animalism. Boxer is a perfect example of how the naïve are exploited within the land. His two maxims are “I will work harder, (p.51), and “Napoleon is always right” (p.47). This demonstrates how the blind faith of leader Napoleon was caused by exploitation of the working animals. Propaganda shows greatly how animals were taken advantage of by their naivety: ‘“Are you certain this is something you have not anywhere?’ And since it was certainly true that nothing of the kind existed in writing, the animals were satisfied they had been mistaken (p.46).” This is said by Napoleon’s second in command Squealer, when animals started to question the changing’s of the seven commandments. This is one of many examples of when the animals are fooled by the propaganda, and then are exploited to do what Napoleon wants. Boxer is taken advantage of his entire life, he then finds himself unable to work, and Napoleon has him killed. Even when he is killed indirectly by Napoleon, they exploit him by saying they should all adopt his maxim’s. Even during death Napoleon uses Boxer to get other animals to work harder. Animal’s naivety is used by Napoleon to do whatever he wanted. He worked animals to death, gained more power each day, and was able to change to origins of Animalism to suit his selfish needs. Animalism started off to be about the common animal, this changed throughout the novel. The seven commandments were meant to protect animals from fighting amongst themselves and becoming like humans. The direction Animalism takes ends up turning animals into what they abhor. Their national anthem changes from an inspirational song, into propaganda for Napoleons self-interested gain. One of the original seven commandments, all animals cannot sleep in beds, get changed into “all animals shall not sleep in beds with sheets” (p.47). Animals now are contradicting themselves, and becoming what they aspire not to be, human like. “I will give you the same toast as before, but in a different form. Fill your glasses to the brim. Gentlemen, here is my toast. To the prosperity of The Manor Farm.” This, in the end of the novel, shows the final product of the extremely modified animalism. This is Napoleons final speech to pig’s and humans in the barn. This scene opposes everything Animalism once stood for. Animals end up drinking, sleeping in beds, wearing cloths and standing on two legs. Nit pick i want every little thing. Also I need a closing please!  more

Resolved Question: What exactly happens at a funeral?

I am writing a story in which the main character's mother passes away, and I would greatly appreciate details on what will happen. All I know is that the casket is taken from the home to the church (in this case in a horse-drawn carriage, with the close family behind in a hearse). Then the casket is carried inside - and from there, I'm lost, having not attended all that many in my life. I would like to know, as specifically as possible, what the vicar would say, and in what order, to save me putting 'the vicar said a lot, and then it was over'. Any typical phrases or quotations they often say (including things they may say at the graveside of the deceased). Much appreciated! The funeral is actually set in the present day, although that particular answer is still very helpful :) The horse drawn carriage is just preference of the family; the woman's husband is an ambassador, so it is quite an elegant and grand occasion  more

Resolved Question: Are We In A Simulation?

Unless creative artificail intelligence is impossible, humans will be likely to develop it before our race goes extinct. With creative artificial intelligence, computers could simulate not only extremely detailed artificial worlds, but artificial beings as well. These beings would act, think, and feel like real beings - including being unaware that they are simulations. Now consider that, with enough computing power, practially limitless numbers of these simulated worlds and people could be run. That means that it is actually more likely than not that we are merely simulated life in a simulated world, rather than the 'real' thing. Commence flames, insults, bible quotations, and threats of hell... This is the whole thesis, if you are interested: http://www.simulation-argument.com/simulation.html Yes, it is something like 'The SIMS', but that game is only a baby step compared to what is needed for a true life-simulation. The SIMS have no creativity - they only operate on programming. When the first creative computer is made, it will essentially prove that we are all just simulations.  more

Resolved Question: Are these good quotes/motto's to live by?

I was laying in my bed just thinking, about life and my future and all my dreams that I have ever had, and I came up with a few quotations and motto's, and I'm wondering if you guys think they are kinda good, and something to live by; 'everyone says Dream Big, but why bother? when you know that if the dream gets to big, it will never come true.' 'when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. even if the lemons are sour.' 'Dream Big, but keep in mind; the bigger the dream, the harder it is to accomplish' What do you think? I know they aren't that positive, but I'm sick and tired of hearing only positive quotations, when life isn't always positive.  more

Voting Question: Can any one explain to me what this quotation from the Bible means ?

My view is this quotation gives the same view as the Buddhist view of the world . The similarity is there despite for the fact that one is in a book believed to be done on Divine Intervention, and the other as discovered by experiencing an ‘Internal Realty’. When I asked this question from this R/S section earlier the only answer I got was the meaning is out of context which I do not understand. Is this quotation not from the Bible ? " Do not be loving either the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world the love of Father is not in him; because everything in the world – the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and showy display of one’s means of life – does not originate with the Father, but originated with the world. Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever." Resolved Question: Where can this be improved?

Words Of Regret Written By Christian S. Passen I wouldn't want to say something that could be used against me later. I wouldn't want to say something and have it misunderstood, or taken the wrong way. So I thought it would be best to not speak at all. However, lately my words, even if unsaid, still affect me. Such bold words to be saying for someone such as yourself. Who are you to say the words that you do? What makes you think that you have the right to speak your mind? Honestly, who do you think you are? What makes you feel you can write down words so powerful and intense, why do you feel you have the right? What makes you think you're so special? Who are you to think you deserve what you hope for? Why do you feel you can make your dreams come true. Do you feel just because you write out your thoughts that it will mean something to someone? Honestly, that's downright pathetic, you arrogant asshole. Are you doing it again, wow, I can't believe you're so unbelievably stubborn. Don't lift up that pen, put it down, stop thinking about her and put out your flame of desire! Fucking emotions! Why the fuck would you listen to these voices that only speak lies. You should know by now, all they do is deceive you and turn you towards a path of pain and suffering. Look at me, I said look at me you son of a bitch, look at me dead in the eye and face what lies right infront of you. Don't look away, don't think you can run. This is your battle, now face it you fucking coward! You pathetic waste of life, you picked up that pen, didn't you? You wrote the words that you knew would change your fate forever. I hope your happy, you just opened the gateway to depression and allowed her to light the path. Congratulations. Now those words you wrote, the same words that you were so proud of, the very words you wished to speak but didn't have the ability to express without fear of their outcome. Yes, the same words that you couldn't stop smiling about, they will soon bring you down. They will cut you up from the inside out, they will play through your mind like a song on repeat. You will try to block them out, but you can't they're everywhere! When you close your eyes, you see them in your dreams, they dwell in the back of your head, they have made themselves comfortable resting in your dark depressed mind. You won't be able to escape them. They are scarred into your very soul. The ink that bled from the pen onto the paper shall stain your hands with constant reminders of pain and loss. You'll lift your hands up to cover your eyes and cry but the words will sink into your face and will leave an imprint on your forehead and everytime you look in the mirror, you will see them jumping out at you in bold quotations. You must be proud of your words now? What baffles my mind is, how can you be proud of something that mocks you daily and never ceases to laugh in your face. These words that you claim to be so proud of shall spit at you with disgust. You created the very thing that will introduce you to your downfall. By writing these words, you hoped to escape the illusion of reality and find an inner peace within yourself, but failed to complete that task. Knowing that bothers you beyond comprehension, this is not what you planned or what you intended. It is however, pure truth. As hard as it is, you must face this truth. On the inside you are dying, why, dare I say it again? Some things are better left unsaid and unwritten, but you had to be stubborn and write them down anyway. You did this to yourself. You can't live with regrets, you you continue to create them for your future. From this point on, you must live with yourself, knowing that. If there is one thing you've learned from this, I pray to G-d that you learned at least something, but if anything, “Words are mans deadliest weapon, use them wisely.” 6/9/9  more

Resolved Question: What does the following quotation mean?

I came across a quotation. It jerk-started my thought process (as all good quotations would do). It was attributed to Fran Lebowitz, which said, "Humility is no substitute for a good personality". The reason why this quotation startled me is because I've always considered humility as one of the best virtues of humanity. I've always believed that humility makes for humanity. What exactly is meant by 'good personality'?? Does it mean introverts like me (the ultra-pro-humility stance is becoz the world today is full of self-centred and ego-maniac people) are not so good ppl just because they are not comfortable in opening up to people? I've heard so many people say,"X is a better human being than Y", and most of the time, it's because "Y" is not exactly comfortable in opening up instantly to people (hence the aloofness is attributed to as arrogance, which is so very wrong. In my case, I can go and talk to someone, but maintaining a relationship is impossible. I don't feel comfortable in letting others' know about my life history and private life. I do that only to those who I can absolutely trust. On an average, it takes 2-3 years for me to trust somebody, before opening up myself to him/her). So, how can people be so judgemental even before getting to know somebody? Aren't you a good human being if you are humble (sure, you may have many other weaknesses, but humility is so very critical)?  more

Resolved Question: THE ATHEISM VS. THEISM DEBATE?

ALL THIS DEBATE FOR WHAT? The bible was written in greek, aramaic, and hebrew.Mostly in hebrew for the old testament.translations from hebrew almost 3000 years ago does not mean the same thing it does now.The bible cannot be read as word for word . translations now and the meanings then are different. Even the style of writing. You must read the full context of the verse, chapter or book to get the full understanding. Then you have to reseach the age in which the book was written to get the total understanding of it. Some things are metaphorical, some are literal, some are dreams, alot are visions, interpretation of dreams and visions and prophecies. The majority of the new testament is Letters to followers spread around asia, africa, the middle east and europe. There is but two commandments....two things GOD Demands of us humans....Love GOD (that which created us with all your heart, soul and mind.)Love your neighbor(fellow human being) as you would love your self.and to remember that christ died that we may all have everlasting life. That he died for our sins. That's it....there is no scripture that says....you must take all scripture as truth or fact. There is no scripture that says the universe was created 6,000 years ago. That's crap.that quotation is taken from a scripture in isaiah where it reads my words are not your words and my thoughts are not your thoughts. As 1000 years are to man ,a day is to GOD.You think that author could understand 6 billion years? That's where this whole 6,000 years crap came from.No one is suppose to believe that. It is descriptive.........THE BIBLE is not meant to be a science book or a math book, but a faith/life/love/morality book. But there are undeniable truths in the bible.there is poetry, there are wars, slavery, but there are also ways to find peace and ways to be free. ATheists want a evolutionary description of every animal and how,why and where they were created. They want scientific theories or something. They ignore the fact that genesis said In the beginning the heavens(universe) was created first and the earth. All planets in the solar system was not mentioned...sorry .Every star, quasar, black hole and singularity was not mentioned either.Neither was the genetic sequence or strategy God used to create DNA. Einsteins theory of relativity, the BIG BANG theory.....all points to the universe having a BEGINNING.No animal was created/evolved in the bible after humans.....so is true in evolution. So if The author explains the creation of creation in terms that are not scientific then you must accept that.I believe GOD created the universe and all life in ages and stages, using evolution to accomplish it.A Micro/macro evolution mix.The bible's depiction of how the plants, sea creatures, land animals and human evolution came to be CANNOT BE QUESTIONED.Where do evolutionists, biologists and scientists believe all life on earth came from? THE SEAS/THE OCEANS.....It is the same as it is written in GENESIS chapter 20 and 21.(let the waters bring forth the moving creature that hath life,)that is the first mention of life on earth. UNDISPUTABLE (in order of apperance to accomadate life in genesis and science books all over the world.) A formless, void earth GEn 1:2 Water(oceans) Gen 1:9 Dry land Gen 1:10 plant life Gen 1:11 SEA LIFE/whales Gen 1 :20 LAND LIFE Gen 1:24 MANKIND Gen 1:27 Evolution....comes to the EXACT same conclusion. READ THIS...if you don't believe me: http://ecology.com/features/originsoflife/index.html That you cannot deny, cannot refute and cannot debate. So let's move on....that right there alone is a basis for the faith people have.Genesis written around 1500 B.C......evolution(origin of the species)written in 1859 A.D Let the debate rest. Must we demonize one another in our search for the TRUTH.I find that if someone cannot answer the question,as exhibited here, namecalling and crude attacks must follow. As the agnostic wrote: (an i'm paraphrasing)You do not do yourself justice by attacking the questioner ,if you are unable to attack the question. Update:Answering valid questions 1.Water was not brought to earth by a comet according to our scientists. 2.The references in Gen CH 2,cannot be used as a second chronological order for the formation/evolution of things. The 7 day/age theory in Gen.ch 1 is the author's revelation of creation.chapter 2 deals with the garden.Notice no mention of any sea creature, fish, whale or anything dealing with the ocean was mentioned. 3.Just b/c you cannot refute the fact that the most accredited and smartest scientists in the world have come to the SAME,EXACT evolutionary process on how the universe, earth, and life on the surface of the planet was formed.Solid arguments wanted.  more

Resolved Question: Have you comments on these similarities seen between a quotation from the Bible and basic Buddhist teachings?

The Quotation from the Bible: (Comparison based on it below) 'Do not be loving either the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world the love of Father is not in him; because everything in the world – the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and showy display of one’s means of life – does not originate with the Father, but originated with the world. Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever.’ (1 John 2:15-7) 1.Bible: ‘Do not be loving ----- the world…’ Buddhist: Detachment with the ‘world’ because the world consists of delusions [There is no other world other than the world of delusions exits only as our creations.] 2.Bible: ‘….passing away…” Buddhist: the state of ‘anithya’ or uncertainty in everything we see and hear 3.Bible: ‘…so is its desire…’ Buddhist: 3 types of desires create only delusions [kama / bhava/ vibhava = seeking sensual pleasure/ seeking to live eternally(libido) / seeking ways and means to cease the existence (mortido) ) The main difference is, Christian aim is a union with the Creator God. The Buddhist aim is the realization as EXPERIENCE of the true situation of the internal reality, which experience takes us to a timeless situation. Resolved Question: What should i do about this situation with my "best friend"?

I am a sophomore in college and i live in New York. I have lived here for a year, and moved here from Alabama. My orthodontist is back in alabama so i go back every three months and while im there i stay with my "best friend". The reason i use the quotation's is because it doesn't seem like we are best friends. we have gotten into arguments here and there though out high school and i always told him that im not going to deal with these stupid arguments with him because there is no reason any friends should argue and fuss, but still he always finds something to get mad about like some little female and always ends up in us arguing because it makes me mad that he must b***h but of coarse its never his fault, he is right about everything, nobody is better than him and so forth. some of the fights have even resulted in him telling me he wishes i was dead. so the other day he tells me that he knows why my ex left me and stopped talking to me out of the blue. he tells me its because he tells her some lies such as, he talk es about you like your a dog, he said he wishes he dated your sister instead and some more serious stuff that i get away with saying on here lol and so yesterday he has another one of his little confessions and tells me that he has told my mom some things about me that i wouldnt be to proud of him telling her. and i ask and ask and ask for him to tell me what he told my mom and it makes him mad which turns into an argument in which he procedes to go off on me. so towards the end of his rambling he says that it was all a lie and did i really think he would say that stuff to me ex and that three years ago i had told some lies and that he was just lieing to me like i lied to him...childish..yes i know. so im like that was three years ago and he says that in three years this will be old news to. he tells me that he never felt like we had a friendship and that when i would tell people he was my best friend that it was all a lie and that one of my other homies on my basketball team is my best friend and that my homie on the basketball team wa sover at my house more times than him and on and on and on. so i tell him that this is rediculas and that im not going to deal with it cause its a stupid argument and we hang up the phone. and so two days later u get on facebook and his little status says "life is good now that i have eliminated some unnecisary "friends" out of my life and the one who i thought that new me". i done really know what to do so i figured some of yall could help me out on here...  more

Resolved Question: If not all Christians are good, then why assume that all Muslims are bad?

There has been another unfortunate chain of events including individuals who claim to be Islamic fundamentalists committing horrendous acts of violence as of late. More disturbingly, many recent incidents have occurred in the USA, causing some journalists and radio talk show personalities to coin them "home grown terrorists." Here is my question. Do most Americans, considering the 9/11/01 attack and the flurry of recent violent acts by so- called Islamic fundamentalists, assume that all Muslims are a danger to the safety and security of the USA? When a violent person is of the same race, ethnicity, and religion as the general population, the public quickly dismisses these characteristics as being relevant to their violent behavior. Charles Manson was a self described Christian Evangelist, who predicted his murders from the Bible and the Book of Revelation. The Reverend Jim Jones, who mass murdered his followers was a Christian minister. Adolf Hitler was Roman Catholic, and his Catholic Nazi officers carried out what they believed to be "God's Will" in the execution of six million Jews and over sixty million people, which included Jews crucified on crosses of barbed wire with Biblical quotations nailed to their crosses. Christians deny that these individuals were Christians, but anyone can find this information to prove otherwise. Why is it that when a Christian hears news that a fellow Christian person has committed a violent act, he refuses to acknowledge that person is part of his religion and refuses to call his own religion into question. But if that same Christian hears news reports that a self proclaimed Muslim Fundamentalist has committed acts of violence, why doesn't that same Christian see any possibility that the person may not have anything to do with Islam? Is it because many Americans know so little about Islam, as opposed to Christianity, that Americans are too quick to assume that when an immigrant from a Middle Eastern country behaves violently that it is the fault of his religion? Isn't there good and bad in all walks of life?  more

Resolved Question: 'Eli Eli lama sabachthani - Oh God Oh God (my God my God) why did you forsake me' Mathew 27:46?

Jesus at the most crucial time of his life (the time of crucifixion) cried out loud: ' Eli Eli lama sabachthani ---- Oh God Oh God (my God my God) why did you forsake me' Mathew 27:46 its an only Hebrew quotation in all 20,000 Versions, even though no two versions are similar, but this quotation lies exactly the same whether you are in India, London, Canada or USA, now question is: 1. If He was God, why would he cry out to some body else? 2. If He was a part of Trinity, and to be in Trinity they all agree to one another, and suppose to have known each others plans, but Unfortunately He did not know what father in heaven was planing for him? 3. If Jehovah is the name of God (the father) than why did he not cry ' Jehovah Jehovah lema sabachthani' ? JUST ELABORATION OF SOME OF YOUR ANSWERS, WE ARE ALL TALKING ABOUT OUR SALVATION, HELP ME PLEASE!!! 4. Gosh, how can some body be God and Man at the same time? God is eternal, yet man is mortal, means God was is and will be, meaning the moment God becomes a man he is god no more, does it make sense ? 5. if it was a prophecy in Jewish scripture (old testament) if and only if it was than why would Jew of that time try to crucify him?  more

Resolved Question: Wanna hear a story about my best friend vs. my love life? Is she jealous? lol?

Okay, just want your opinions. Plus, I always enjoy reading other people's stories about things happening in their life. My best friend and I have been best friends for years. I am friends with my friends "first boyfriend". Now with the quotation marks, it means they weren't exactly dating because they were only like 10 at the time. But, now her and this guy are like brother and sister. Let's give him a name, how about Bob. So original right? Just kidding. See, Bob and I just started dating. I've asked my best friend several times if this bothers her even in the slightest way. She said no every time. But, I know it bothers you because actions speak louder than words. Bob invited me to a formal party on June 13th and he asked me to wear Red and Black as those were the colors that he is going to wear. I wanted to wear something different than my clothes, so I asked my best friend if I could borrow her Red and Black dress. Perfect colors. I was so happy. She said yes that I could. Last week she was like, "I have something to tell you". I'm like "Is it about the dress?" She said "Yes. I was thinking about it, and I want to wear that dress again. And I feel that your boobs are too big and will stretch out the top part of my dress, you know since it is elastic." I was SO pissed! It wasn't the fact that she said I couldn't borrow it, but that she said I could until now. And what kind of excuse is that? She has bigger legs than me but I let her borrow my pants all the time. And my boobs are only ONE cup size bigger. I think she is jealous about just me being invited to the party with Bob. It pisses me off that this is the way that she handles it. She pretends she isn't jealous, but among other situations like this, I really do feel that she is jealous. She told Bob last week that I was a "jealous, clingy, obsessive" person and Bob was like "so?" I really think she expected him to be disgusted with these traits. What do you think her motive was for not letting me borrow her dress? And does she have any right to do these actions by this stupid reason of jealousy?  more

Resolved Question: Why is it that if you say someone is reasonable, moderate, evenhanded, that's usually considered a compliment?

but when it comes to religion it's considered an insult? "I shall take the lukewarm and spew them out of my mouth." (Sorry, if the quotation is a little off. Going from memory here.) Could it be that the term religion just means whatever people believe in most fervently and without question? And that everybody needs something to believe in passionately and without question? Could it be that everyone has matters of "ultimate concern" (Paul Tillich) and that these matters function as gods in people's personal lives, whether they are called gods or God, or not? Ok, read Slightly Dark Francis' answer. The difference then is that reasonable/moderate seems to imply using your brains and actively considering and choosing an alternative that's somewhere between various extremes. While lukewarm seems to imply passivity, doubt. I don't know, whatever man, just give me none of the above because I can't make up my mind?  more

Resolved Question: Could she seriously be in love? Please, Please, Please, answer!!?

Okay I have a 13 year old daughter who has a 14 year old boyfriend. They are only a few months different in age. Well he moved and it's now long distance. They haven't been going out for a very long time but not a short period of time. He only lives about a half an hour from where we live so they do see each other often. She kisses him -peck kisses- hugs, cuddles, and holds his hand. I don't really mind it. But the other day my daughter started talking to me and she told me she really thinks she loves him. I just said "Oh, puppy love" and she smiled and rolled her eyes. Well she is pretty mature for her age but all of there friends believe that one day they will get married. I just think it's another relationship but honestly I don't know because she tells me she believe shes in love and she doesn't care what anyone says. She says that she has never felt this way. Then the other day I heard them saying "I Love You" to each other and I thought it was cute. [= They are always joking -or not- about getting married when they are older. They got "married" over the internet and they both put the quotations around married when they say that. I just want to know, do you think that my daughter could seriously be in love. I mean I think she might be by the way she acts but I'm just a wondering mother. Every adult says love comes with age but.. I don't know if that's true anymore. Please answer with your own opinion. Best answer.. 10 points!! To the girl who said she might be having sex.. I know she's not. She promised me and God to wait until she's married. And I asked her best friend who she tells everything to and her bestfriend said the farthest they've gone is peck kissing. [= So thanks cause at first I thought that to. But me and my daughter are pretty close. She tell's me everything that goes on in her life. If she was she couldn't live with the guilt. Trust me. [=  more
