Resolved Question: Does the Israeli lobby?
have too much influence on US foreign policy Fears over the Jewish lobby's excess influence on US foreign policy flared anew yesterday after a former diplomat and strong critic of Israel backed out of a key national intelligence post, saying his appointment by President Barack Obama had been torpedoed by a campaign of lies against him. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/israel-lobby-blamed-as-obamas-choice-for-intelligence-chief-quits-1643976.html moreVoting Question: Should USA foreign policy be defined by Washington or by corrupt lobbyists working for the state of Israel.?
Do you thing Obama may be successful in his wish to curb the system of lobbying which is nothing other than legalised bribery, and return power to the voting public. moreResolved Question: Will Obama CHANGE the United States foreign policy?
Especially regarding the Middle East. Hopefully he will not be like other presidents and give billions to Israel no matter what and hopefully he will do more than any other president to put down a viable solution to peace. However intelligent Obama is I hope he doesn't get too caught up in the corporate interests and is not made a puppet of the zionist lobby in the US, although I doubt it. I'm glad Obama won though because imagine if Palin got No 2 position, that would've been an utter embarrassment for humanity, not that Bush, Cheney or Rice aren't but she does set the bar a little more lower. moreResolved Question: Are the authors John Mearsheimer (Univ of Chicago) & Stephen Walt of Harvard uncovered the final taboo....?
The power of America's "Jewish lobby" is said to be legendary. Commentators the world over refer to it, as though it were a well-established fact that US Jews wield far more influence than their numbers (2% of the population) would suggest. But this presumed influence is also a delicate issue in the US, and is rarely analysed. How does the lobby work? Is its power truly legendary, or just a legend? Two US academics, John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago and Stephen Walt of Harvard, have set out to answer those questions, and triggered a firestorm of controversy as a result. Their book The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy, which builds on a 2006 article in the London Review of Books, says the reasons for US support for Israel need to be explained. [Many critics] tried to smear us by either saying or hinting that we are anti-Semitic Stephen Walt Mearsheimer/Walt interview America spends $3bn a year in largely military assistance - one-sixth of its direct aid budget - to help a prosperous, nuclear-armed country, and strongly backs Israel in negotiations on Middle East peace. But according to Mearsheimer and Walt, the US gets remarkably little in return. They reject the argument that Israel is a key ally in America's "war on terror". On the contrary, they contend, US patronage of Israel fuels militant anger - as well as fostering resentment in Arab countries that control vital oil supplies. moreResolved Question: The role of the Israel Lobby in US foreign policy?
Walt and Mearsheimer in their paper titled "The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy", examined the role of the Israel lobby in determining US foreign policy. Considering Israel receives $3 billion in aid from the United States, which constitutes one fifth of the total US aid budget, and that Israel is a wealthy state with a per capita income comparable to Spain, how does one justify the huge amount of US aid sent to Israel each year? Is such a close relationship between the US and Israel a result of the Israel Lobby influencing US foreign and security policy or is another factor responsible? moreResolved Question: Does the Israel lobby have too much power?
